For example, takai desu — it's expensive. There are four forms of Japanese i-adjectives: the affirmative present tense, the negative form, the affirmative past tense, and the negative past form. For instance: • Takai desu — It's expensive. • Taka ku nai desu — It's not expensive. • Taka katta desu — It was expensive. • Taka ku nakatta desu — It wasn’t expensive.
