We practiced changing Group 3 and Group 2 verbs from the masu‑form to the ta‑form.
It may seem like a simple exercise, but the ta‑form is just as important as the te‑form.
It might feel a little boring, but it’s a very useful grammar point to remember, so let’s keep working on it together.
Tomorrow, we will practice changing Group 1 verbs from the masu‑form to the ta‑form. I’m sure it will gradually come back to you. See you again tomorrow!

Why does Japanese use different verbs for “put”?
When you make tonkatsu, you might use several different verbs in Japanese:
しお、こしょうをふる
にくに バッターを つける
にくを あぶらに いれる
にくを あぶらで あげる
For English speakers, this can be confusing because English often uses put in situations where Japanese uses different verbs.
For example, you can say:
Put the pork in the oil.
→ 肉を油に入れる
But you would not normally say:
Put salt and pepper on the pork.
It is understandable, but sprinkle salt and pepper on the pork is more natural.
Similarly:
Dip the pork in the batter.
→ にくに バッターを つける
Fry the pork in oil.
→ にくを あぶらで あげる
The important point
Japanese often has a specific verb for how you do the action.
ふる = sprinkle something
つける = put something onto something / dip something in something
入れる = put something inside
揚げる = cook something in hot oil
English also has these specific verbs, but put is a very general and useful verb, so English speakers may feel that many Japanese verbs have the same basic meaning: “put something somewhere.”
So when you learn Japanese, don't try to translate every Japanese verb as put.
Instead, ask yourself:
“How am I moving or handling the object?”
That's often the key to choosing the right Japanese verb!
