Thank you for coming to class today! ありがとうございました。 You told me about a festival you went to in Hawaii, and it sounded like you had a great time. When you said you ate “tako,” I thought you meant octopus because タコ means “octopus” in Japanese. But you meant tacos! Of course I know tacos, but since your Japanese is always so good and you know many Japanese words, I really thought you were talking about octopus for a moment. 😄
Today, we studied adjectives and made many different sentences using them. For example:
しんかんせんははやいです。 The Shinkansen is fast.
マクドナルドはたかいです。 McDonald’s is expensive.
アタック・オン・タイタンはおもしろいです。 Attack on Titan is interesting.
ドン・キホーテのつうろはせまいです。 The aisles at Don Quijote are narrow.
That last sentence was especially funny and very natural!
We also practiced the negative form of adjectives. For example:
そのレストランはたかいですか。 Is that restaurant expensive?
いいえ、たかくないです。 No, it isn’t expensive.
このくるまははやいですか。 Is this car fast?
いいえ、はやくないです。No, it isn’t fast.
You were able to use many different adjectives very well today.
At the end of the lesson, I asked you:
にほんごはおもしろいですか。 Is Japanese interesting?
And you answered:
はい、おもしろいです。 Yes, it is interesting.
