is used to indicate the existence of things or persons.
*「…は〜にあります/います」
is used when you describe the location of things or persons.

*コンビニは　ゆうびんきょくの　まえに　あります。
konbini wa yuubinnkyoku no mae ni arimasu
*じぇーんさんは　ひろさんの　となりに　います。
jeen san wa hiro no tonari ni imasu

Q:すみません、ほんやは　どこに　ありますか。
sumimasen honya wa doko ni arimasuka
A:ぱんやの　となりに　あります。
panya no tonari ni arimasu
