First, we talked about the World Cup. I'm really, really, really disappointed that Japan lost. It made me so sad. But thank you for recommending some great matches to watch. I'd like to watch them on TV.
Thank you for telling me how hot it is in New York. It's very hot in Japan every day as well. However, the buses and trains have air conditioning, so they're very comfortable. Sometimes they're even a little too cold!
Thank you for telling me about the Japanese supermarkets in the U.S. I had never heard of them before, so I found them very interesting. I looked them up on Wikipedia and was surprised to see that they carry many famous Japanese stores and products. I'd love to visit one someday.
Today, we studied the grammar pattern 〜と, which expresses something that always happens when something else happens, such as,
このレバーを下（さ）げると、機械（きかい）が止（と）まります。
When you lower this lever, the machine stops.
この蛇口（じゃぐち）を回（まわ）すと、お湯（ゆ）が出（で）ます。
When you turn this faucet, hot water comes out.
春（はる）になると桜（さくら）が咲（さ）きます
When spring comes, the cherry blossoms bloom.
I was very surprised that you knew the kanji for じゃぐち (faucet). That's right! The kanji for じゃぐち uses the kanji for 'snake' (蛇).
You did a great job today. Your verb conjugations were excellent, and you used them correctly without making mistakes.
There will be no class next week because of my schedule, but I’ll enjoy watching the World Cup while I look forward to seeing you again.
